(UPI) -- On Friday morning, Rob Gronkowski's agent Drew Rosenhaus said that the Patriots tight end has been cleared to play for the team.

Gronkowski has been fully practicing with teammates for weeks, but one of his doctors had not cleared him for play because of issues with his forearm.

This will put Gronkowski in for the Patriots on Sunday -- his first game this season -- during their game against the New York Jets. His return has been treated with caution as he comes off multiple surgeries on his forearm and an offseason procedure on his back.

Recent reports said that Gronkowski's injury was creating tension in the locker room, especially after reports came out that he might have healed faster without the surgeries. Even without Gronkowski, the team has a 5-1 record including a win over the Jets in Week 2.

"Obviously, I want to be out there,” Gronkowski said. "I love the game of football. I love playing. I love playing the game. It's great being out there with my teammates, practicing out there, getting on the same page, getting the chemistry down. We'll see.”

Coach Bill Belichick has not commented on how much Gronkowski will get to play in the game Sunday, but said that he trusted the judgement of his doctors.

"As it relates to our medical people, we have confidence in all of them. And they do a good job," Belichick said. The team will release an updated injury report late Friday.
