Oct. 12 (UPI) -- A billboard of a tattooed man with the appearance of Jesus has angered some West Lubbock, Texas, residents, but others said the message of the video associated with the image is positive.

The billboard recently popped up on the side of a highway in Texas, causing some to react negatively to the shocking image of Jesus with words like "outcast," "addicted" and "jealous" tattooed across his body, ABC News reported.

“I don’t like the picture. I think it’s very derogatory,” a resident told KEYE-TV, Austin, Texas.

The billboard featured a web address to Jesustattoo.org, which features a more than five minute video of a man appearing to be Jesus tattooing several individuals who come to him bearing shameful or negative tattoos.

He replaces their tattoos with more positive ones. A woman with the word "self-righteous" tattooed on her chest gets one instead that says "humble." "Outcast" is replaced with "accepted," "fear" is replaced with trust.

At the end of the video, it is revealed the Jesus character has all the negative tattoos now sprawled across his arms and chest.

David Wilson, a senior pastor at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock said when he looked up the website, he found the video to be "perfect because it just draws people in here."

“I thought that it was cleverly done because, basically, it’s a visual of Jesus taking the sins of people and covering them and taking them from an outcast or something and giving them a new start, which is what the gospel is about,” he said.
