(UPI) -- The United States Postal Service has fired a Fresno, Calif., mailman who admitted he threw away letters about "Obamacare."
Residents of a Central Fresno apartment complex took photos of a nearby dumpster filled with mail about “Obamacare.” Witnesses saw the postal carrier discarding the mail.
"He just kept glancing over his shoulder over and over again. It was like he knew what he was doing was wrong," said witness Jerry Dills. "It was just amazing, I looked down in there and there was a bunch of people's addresses and right away... I knew this was absolutely wrong.”
Dills brought the mail from the dumpster to his local post office and filed a formal complaint.
A representative from the U.S. Postal Service questioned the carrier and he admitted to disposing of the mail. The temporary worker, who had just been hired in August, was fired immediately.
"He was running late and wanted to get back to the post office on time,” said U.S. Postal Service spokesperson Gus Ruiz.
Dills was happy to hear the mail carrier lost his job. "This is very important information and there's no telling where you stop it at, you stop at one thing or is everything being thrown away on a daily basis. What is this person doing?"
