The latest episode of "Sons of Anarchy" ended with a bang.
Fans of the hit FX series should expect nothing less from the addictive drama after this season has been marked by brutal deaths and shocking plot twists.
At the conclusion of last night’s episode, "The Mad King," Jax (Charlie Hunnam) notices a suspicious pen in the SAMCRO clubhouse and is barely able to get his wife Tara (Maggie Siff) and son Thomas out of the shop before it explodes.
The episode’s director, Gwyneth Horder-Payton, got choked up about the big bang.
"It’s funny, I’m not a big explosion person, even though I seem to get them in my scripts all the time -- all the time. I’m a woman, I don’t really care. But this one actually did bring a tear to my eye because of what the clubhouse meant to all these people. It really affected me in ways that surprised me. You know when you sort of hiccup [to fight back tears]? It was caught in my throat. Emotionally, I think it was very successful."
Series creator Kurt Sutter indicated that there will be more twists -- and deaths -- to come before all is said and done.
"The irony of the crown is you can’t necessarily sit at the head of that table and not become Clay," Sutter said. "Although in Jax’s mind, he is the anti‑Clay. He’s doing everything for completely different reasons. But the truth is, the behavior is still the same…when you’re outlaws who live by a code of violence, can you really step away from the violence?"
