Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Apple's iPhone 5s and its new mid-range iPhone 5c will become available in 51 more countries and territories in the coming weeks, the company announced Wednesday.

The new phones are designed to pick up many types of wireless signal, allowing the sale of the same models worldwide and cutting manufacturing costs. Apple is aiming to expand the iPhone mobile brand into more corners of the worldwide market, where rival Samsung has the California company beat.

The iPhone 5S and 5C will be available in more than 25 countries on Oct. 25, from Italy, Russia, and Spain to Austria, French West Indies and Reunion Island, which is about 500 miles east of Madagascar.

Friday, Nov. 1, the phones will become available in another 16 countries, including Albania, Bahrain, Guam, Saudi Arabia and UAE.

In a first for Apple, the smartphones were made available in China on the day they launched. The latest iPhones are already available in the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK.

The iPhone 5s and 5c launch was Apple's biggest yet, with more than 9 million units sold.
