Peter Laviolette has been axed as Flyers coach just three games into the season.

Laviolette took over in the middle of the 2009-2010 season and took the team to the Stanley Cup final. The next two seasons resulted in second-round playoff losses. Last year, the team did not make it to the postseason.

He was expected to leave rather than begin a rebuilding process for the team, and an 0-3 start expedited his departure.

Fired just three games into the season, Laviolette now has the record for the quickest sacking of an NHL coach. Assistant coach Craig Berube will become head coach.
