In the Obamacare standoff that led to a partial shutdown of the federal government Tuesday, it seems House Republicans are standing firm.

“We’re not going to be disrespected,” conservative Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Ind., added. “We have to get something out of this. And I don’t know what that even is.

Indeed, despite the government shutdown, federal and state healthcare exchanges opened Wednesday to a stampede of Americans seeking health insurance.

Democrats are seeking a "clean" continuing resolution to fund the government while further budget negotiations focus on the looming debt limit deadline.

But House Republicans say they won't agree to a funding bill until Senate Democrats agree to a conference committee to negotiate. Dems offered a conference after government funding was restored, and they were rebuffed.

Obama remained firm in a Wednesday evening meeting, telling House leaders to reopen the government and raise the debt limit if they want to resume negotiations.

House GOP leaders and many rank-and-file Republicans did not support using the threat of government shutdown to defund Obamacare, fearing political backlash.

However, House GOP leadership is so far thwarting a vote on a "clean" CR even though enough Republicans are now publicly on board to pass it.
