Despite rumors, Jack Del Rio will finish his season with the Broncos but he may still be the frontrunner for the coaching job at the University of Southern California.
Early Sunday morning, Southern Cal announced that they had fired head coach Lane Kiffin. In the interim, the team will bring in former Mississippi coach Ed Orgeron.
Del Rio, who played football for the Trojans, will not make any decisions about the gig until the conclusion of the NFL season. He will not be able to break his contract with the Denver Broncos as defensive coordinator until it expires in February.
“I know Jack is committed to the Denver Broncos,” Broncos coach John Fox said.
Other rumored candidates include Washington's Steve Sarkisian, the Philadelpha Eagles' Chip Kelly, Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin and Texas Tech's Kliff Klingsbury.
Nick Saban is not in the running, as he has already been tapped by Texas, which still has Mack Brown as coach. Saban said he has closed the door on the NFL and that he is "too old" to leave Alabama and change schools at this point.
