The shootings come after a spate of violence Thursday and Friday, when 24 people were shot and four killed, including 13 people injured at a park in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.
The first of four fatal shootings occurred at 6:10 p.m. Friday in South Shore, when 18-year-old Jaleel Pearson was shot in the chest and arm. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and was pronounced dead around 7 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
At 6:30 p.m. Brenden Temple, 21, was shot once in the head in West Englewood. He died at 7:18 p.m. at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Then, at 11:10 p.m., a 37-year-old man was killed when a gunman came up behind him, shooting him multiple times, in an alley in Englewood. The man, whose name was not being released by the Medical Examiner's office Saturday morning, died at 12:01 a.m. at Stroger Hospital.
Jamal Coleman, 22, was the last person to die in the overnight violence, when he was shot multiple times in the leg in the Near West Side around 3 a.m. He died at Stroger Hospital at 3:22 a.m.
A 23-year-old man was shot in the same incident, hit in the leg, and walked into Stroger Hospital for treatment.
At 1:25 a.m., a 30-year-old man was shot multiple times by someone in a passing car, getting hit in the abdomen, arms and legs while getting out of his car. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and is in serious condition.
In the Gold Coast at 4 a.m., a 41-year-old man was shot in an apparent argument over a parking space. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with a wound to his abdomen, and was in serious-to-critical condition. The suspect fled in a white car, police said.
Finally, at 5:35 a.m. a 51-year-old man was shot in the West Pullman neighborhood of the Far South Side when he heard gunfire and realized he had been shot. He was taken to the Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Detectives are investigating all eight shootings.
