Seahawks fan at CenturyLink Field on Sunday night broke the Guinness World Record for being the loudest stadium in the world during the game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Cheers reached 136.6 decibels during the third quarter of the game Sunday.

An earlier measurement showed the noise in the stadium at 131.9 decibels. Both readings were louder than the previous record, 131.76 decibels, set two years ago at a soccer game in Istanbul.

An initial reading at CenturyLink was just shy of the previous CenturyLink record, at 130.1. Fans in the stadium knew the attempt was underway and fought hard to break it.

“That’s huge,” said Bill Stewart, a sound engineer and partner at SSA Acoustics in Seattle who measured the record attempts. “That’s going to be really tough for someone else to beat.”

“I knew we could do it! We impact every defensive play,” said Shawn Burns, a longtime season ticket holder.
