The Powerball jackpot has once again soared to a multimillion dollar figure. Just over a month after the lottery reached a $448.4 million prize, the current pot has reached a super-jackpot range with a $317 million prize up for grabs on Saturday.
The figure for the current Powerball was achieved after no winning picks were sold for ten consecutive draws including Wednesday night's $248.3 million prize.
In August, "Good Morning America" co-anchor Robin Roberts suggested the astronomical growth of recent pots was due to the public's aversion to purchasing tickets before the prizes reach nine digits.
The lump sum for Saturday's price will be of $173.3 million.
Although nobody won the jackpot Wednesday, six lucky players scattered across the nation matched the first 5 numbers for a $1,000,000 prize. There was one winner from each state in Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New York, and Pennsylvania.
The Pennsylvania winner, who had also purchased the Power Play option, had his or her prize doubled for a total win of $2 million.
