Russia’s Investigative Committee has now opened a criminal case naming Hasselhoff and frontman Jimmy Pop as suspects and accusing them of “inciting hatred and enmity." A statement on the committee's website refers to the pair by their real names, Jared Hennegan and James Moyer Franks.
“Moyer, Hennegan and other unknown persons entered a criminal plot aimed at disgracing Russian citizens and formed a criminal group to that end,” the statement reads.
The committee also said it is thinking about putting the two on a wanted list.
The July 30 incident incited such fury that Hasselhoff and Jimmy Pop were forced to cancel their next concert in Anapa, Russia. Instead, they headed to the airport where Russian nationalists pelted them with eggs and smothered one band member with the American flag.
