Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Miley Cyrus' hyper-sexual VMAs twerk-fest might have cost her the cover of Vogue, according to unnamed sources cited by The Daily Mail on Sunday.

The British tabloid says that the 20-year-old "We Can't Stop" singer and twerking evangelist had been photographed for Vogue's December issue. But Anna Wintour, the magazine's notoriously cold editor-in-chief, canceled the cover when she saw the VMAs.

"Anna found the whole thing distasteful," a source said. "She decided, based on Miley's performance, to take the cover in a different direction."

While it's easy to believe that Wintour would find something "distasteful," E! News said Monday that the rumors weren't true -- Cyrus was never photographed for the iconic fashion mag.

After speaking with a member of Cyrus' camp, Ken [Baker] said the singer never shot photos for Wintour's publication. Instead, the former Disney star will be featured in an upcoming issue of Harper's Bazaar.

Meanwhile, Miley has her new single to think about.

Seemingly unswayed by the controversy regarding her dance moves and apparent aversion to clothing, Cyrus debuted her "Wrecking Ball" music video on Monday, in which she straddles a wrecking ball in the buff.
