Scotty McCreery was the pitcher for his high school's baseball team in Garner, N.C., and continued to play while he opened for Brad Paisley during his senior year. Now 19, McCreery is giving back to programs that support young baseball players.
The young country singer has announced the launch of a six-city tour at Major League Baseball ballparks with plans to donate $50,000 of the proceeds to youth baseball, including the MLB's Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities program.
“I learned some of my greatest lessons playing sports and being a team member,” Scotty said of the initiative. “Sports teach you so many life lessons about self-discipline, responsibility, teamwork, setting goals, and being fit. It’s awesome that Major League Baseball provides opportunities for kids who might not have a chance to play baseball and softball elsewhere. I’m proud to provide assistance to this program.”
McCreery has already had tour stops in St. Petersburg, Fla., and San Diego. The tour ends September 27 in Atlanta.
