"We wanted a logo that stayed true to our roots (whimsical, purple, with an exclamation point) yet embraced the evolution of our products," read a statement released by Yahoo's Chief Marketing Officer Kathy Savitt.
Marissa Mayer also addressed the unveiling in a blog post titled "Geeking Out on the Logo" where she explained a few of the features chosen for the new emblem and why they were chosen.
"We knew we wanted a logo that reflected Yahoo - whimsical, yet sophisticated," Mayer wrote. "Modern and fresh, with a nod to our history. Having a human touch, personal. Proud."
