If fans of "Fifty Shades of Grey" got their way, Matt Bomer would be starring in the film's titular role when it opens next year.

After book author E.L. James announced on Twitter the part of Christian Grey would be played by "Sons of Anarchy" star Charlie Hunnam (and Ana Steele by Dakota Johnson), disappointed fans erupted in protest, even launching a petition to replace them with Bomer and Alexis Bledel.

But the bad news keeps rolling in for those fans, as Bomer politely declined the non-existant offer.

"I'm so grateful for the fans and touched," Bomer said. "I'm looking forward to seeing the movie with Charlie and Dakota."

Bomer did say he'll be embracing his bad side on "White Collar" on the show's upcoming fifth season.

"We're definitely embracing more of a bad boy version of [Bomer's character] Neal this year," Bomer said. "Neal's starting to realize that he doesn't have to be a good boy all the time and that maybe not doing the right thing is what he's best at."

"Fifty Shades of Grey" is due out in theaters Aug. 1, 2014.
