People magazine broke the story Wednesday night, saying that the 33-year-old athlete "realized he needs help."
The 32-year-old NBA veteran was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving last Friday after police officers said they saw Odom driving "in a serpentine manner."
While Odom has stayed mum about his alleged drug addiction, his wife has taken to Twitter to issue cryptic messages about defending her family and staying strong.
"Really hard to sit here and listen to people talk sh** about my family! F*** you and shame on you! I'm too protective for this sh**!" the 29-year-old television personality wrote in August.
