Yogurt giant Chobani Inc. has issued a voluntary withdrawal of some of their products that "simply weren't up to snuff."
In a statement released Saturday, Chobani explained they had "voluntarily and proactively removed and replaced the majority of potentially affected cups" after receiving several complaints regarding "quality concerns surrounding certain cups, which were experiencing swelling or bloating."
An affected consumer anonymously told Food Safety News they had purchased several Chobani cups from a Safeway store in Oakland, Calif., and found that some of them were bloated and others had punctured foil covers.
In an update to the statement Tuesday, the company wrote they had identified a type of mold "commonly found in the dairy environment" in the affected product.
"The product in question is less than 5% of our production and is limited to cups produced at our Idaho facility, which accounts for only one third of our production capacity," Chobani wrote Tuesday.
The affected cups are marked with code 16-012 and expiration dates of 9/11/2013 to 10/7/ 2013.
"In order to deliver upon our very rigid quality standards, we ask that if you’ve purchased cups with these code dates to contact our Customer Loyalty Team directly at http://chobani.com/who-we-are/contact so we can coordinate replacements," the company wrote in the statement.
