Wambach passed Mia Hamm's 158 goals in June to become the world all time leader -- men and women -- in goals scored in international competition. Tuesday night against Mexico, Wambach tacked on another goal, bringing her total to 161, before ceding the spotlight to teammate Sydney Leroux, who scored four more.
With two years to go before the next World Cup, the friendly against Mexico was a nice opportunity for coach Tom Sermanni to mix veterans such as Wambach, 33, and captain Christie Rampone, 38, with the up-and-comers Leroux, 23, and Alex Morgan, 24.
The U.S. women are ranked No. 1 in the world, and with Tuesday's win, kept a 34-game win streak as well as a 73-game streak of home victories going strong.
