Just before noon Tuesday, a woman was critically shot by her husband on the campus of Faulkner University, a Christian university in Montgomery, Alabama.
Montgomery police have confirmed that the victim shot is being upgraded to stable but serious condition. Medics rushed the victim with life-threatening injuries to an area hospital after she was shot.
The man, 37-year-old Reginald Brown, was apprehended nearby on Atlanta Highway, and investigators say attempted murder charges against him are pending. Brown also received a charge of certain person forbidden to carry a pistol.
The shooting is said to be domestic-violence related. He is being held in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on $500,000 bond.
The shooting occurred near a maintenance building on campus, away from students. Maintenance workers at the scene reported hearing about seven or eight gunshots and the sound of squealing tires.
Alabama Christian Academy, a Church of Christ school near Faulkner, was placed on lockdown for a brief period of time Tuesday. The lockdown was later lifted.
Some Faulkner students say they received a text message, saying, "(Active Shooter on Campus) Emergency! Armed person on campus. Go to nearest room and lock door. If off campus, do not enter campus. Follow instructions from auth."
Campus leaders have confirmed that many students and faculty never received the alert, however.
