The New York Jets released wide receiver Braylon Edwards and kick returner Joe McKnight along with 13 others to shave the team roster down to 75 under new general manager John Idzik.

Among 15 players released by the Jets, McKnight was the biggest surprise. He contributed to the team's last playoff season in 2010, and came to camp determined to stay on the lineup, saying "They're gonna have to kill me to take my spot."

But McKnight blamed his failed conditioning test on dehydration, and missed time first because of migraines, then later due to a controversial "head injury" that McKnight later said was a concussion.

Also during camp, McKnight was arrested in New Jersey on outstanding traffic violations. He further embarrassed the team by engaging in a Twitter argument with a fan, suggesting the individual meet him for a fight.

Edwards had been signed with the team on the even of training camp, but fell short of the top five on the depth chart. With the return of Santonio Holmes to practice Monday for the first time since foot surgery, Edwards became expendable.
