New Orleans has lost veteran linebacker Will Smith for the 2013 season after a knee injury Smith sustained in the preseason game against the Texans.

Smith left the game after being part of a pile-up after teammate Cam Jordan sacked Texans quarterback Mike Schaub. The injury was later determined to be an ACL tear.

Smith, 32, was transitioning into becoming an outside linebacker under new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. He took a $6 million pay cut to stay in New Orleans.

Smith joins Saints linebackers Victor Butler, Martez Wilson and Junior Galette as players that will miss significant time due to injury.
