Kate Gosselin sues Jon for alleged hacking

By KATE STANTON, UPI.com

Kate Gosselin is filing a "multi-million dollar" lawsuit against her ex-husband Jon for illegally tapping into her cell phone, computer and bank accounts in an attempt to undermine her public reputation.

In paperwork filed with the U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania, Kate says Jon stole the contents of her email account and hard drive to give to his friend and business partner, Robert Hoffman, who was writing a tell-all e-book called "Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World."

"Hoffman used the illegally acquired data to publish a defamatory book about Kate…[which] was removed from large distributors like Amazon.com because the information was obtained illegally," the complaint says.

“Nevertheless, the damage was done with the release of the personal and private information and the defendants continue to possess this illegally obtained private information.”

The former couple starred on Jon & Kate Plus 8, an unscripted TLC series about life with their sextuplets and twins. After years of fighting on television and a cheating scandal, they split in 2009.

In a recent cover story with People magazine, Kate, a former nurse, said that she had trouble putting an income together after her show ended.

In the same issue, Jon described his relationship with his ex-wife as "civil."

"We text. It's moved from email to text," he said. "We don't communicate that well, so it's better with text to leave emotion out of it. Really, all we're dealing with is just transportation and logistics."
