There's a new No. 2 in town.

In practice, Oakland quarterback Terrelle Pryor began wearing the No. 2 that JaMarcus Russell wore as quarterback for the Raiders from 2007 to 2009.

The return of his number, along with two more players signing with the Chicago Bears, may signify the end to Russell's NFL prospects.

During his three seasons in the NFL, Russell completed 354 of 680 passes for 4,083 yards and 18 touchdowns with 23 interceptions and had a 7-18 record as a starter.

Russell was a No. 1 draft pick, but has been out of football since May 2010, when he was released by the Raiders.

He went to Test West Football Academy in San Diego earlier this year to try to get back into NFL shape. Russell lost more than 50 pounds training under former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia.

Even after the camp, 28-year-old Russell was only offered one workout, with the Chicago Bears. Now that the Bears have brought on QB hopefuls Jordan Palmer and Trent Edwards, Russell's chances are looking slim.

Pryor, who took his number, wore jersey No. 2 at Ohio State. When he joined the Raiders, he was issued No. 6.

Hue Jackson, Oakland's coach at the time, did not want Pryor to wear No. 2, even though the former Buckeye said he requested it.

"Coach won't let me wear No. 2. Why? I don't know," Pryor said at the time. "You tell me. I'm just going off what coach tells me."

But now, Pryor gets to pick up Russell's number for good.

The only Raiders to wear No. 2 in a regular season game were Russell, quarterback Aaron Brooks in 2006 and punter Leo Araguz.
