A massive sinkhole that has been swallowing up land in Louisiana is being monitored by authorities as it continues to grow. The sinkhole already spans 24 acres, and has forced an entire town to evacuate.

The sinkhole opened in August 2012 in Assumption Parish swampland and has been expanding since. Video footage of it has been released showing the sinkhole sucking in chunks of land and trees in just seconds.

Bayou Corne has evacuated 350 residents for fear their homes may be in danger. Authorities are monitoring the sinkhole and updating alert statuses related to seismic activity within the sinkhole.
