Brandy has sold more than 30 million records worldwide, but that doesn't mean that she'll always play to a full house. In fact, the 34-year-old singer played for way less in South Africa on Saturday, when she performed two songs for 40 people -- in a 90,000 seat stadium.
Brandy was scheduled as a surprise guest for Nelson Mandela Sport and Culture Day at FNB Stadium in Soweto, at which a concert is supposed to follow a day of football and rugby. Most attendees didn't know about the concert portion and left immediately after the games. By the time Brandy stepped on stage, there were only 40 people left in the stands.
"I have no words for what I just witnessed," South African musician Kabomo tweeted after the overly intimate performance. "Brandy performed to an empty stadium. With the stadium lights on. She sulked after two songs and walked off."
"Brandy performing for the chairs!" another witness wrote.
Brandy is "popular in Africa," according to the Guardian, but her fans just didn't know to turn up for the show.
She's since made no mention of the mishap on social media, though she has tweeted about upcoming performances in Atlanta. Let's hope more people show up this time.
