Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe Giudice pleaded not guilty to federal charges Wednesday following an indictment that could land the reality stars in jail for up to 50 years.

The couple reportedly remained silent during the hearing, which took place at the Newark, N.J., federal courthouse, and let their lawyer do all the talking for them.

"They were relieved they could stand up in court and plead not guilty through their attorneys," Joe Giudice's lawyer, Miles Feinstein, said.

The couple has remained fairly calm since being charged with a 39-count indictment for fraud and tax evasion in late July. After being released from jail on a $500,000 bond each, the Giudices were spotted relaxing on a beach vacation.

Conviction in all charges could send both Teresa and Joe, whose real first name is Giuseppe, to jail for up to 50 years. In addition, Joe, who was born in Italy and is not yet a U.S. citizen, could face deportation.

After the plea was entered, Teresa attended a signing for her cookbook "Fabulicious: On the Grill" at a friend's boutique in Wayne, N.J.

"It's a good example to show to my daughters -- that mommy's a businesswoman," she told ET cameras at the event. "Hopefully they'll follow in my footsteps."
