Marijwhatnow? Cops deal Doritos at Seattle Hempfest

Seattle police will be on hand for the city's Hempfest on Saturday, and they have a mission: pass out bags of Doritos to pot enthusiasts along with legal information.

"Operation Orange Fingers" is what they're calling it, and police spokesman Sgt. Sean Whitcomb confirmed that cops will be handing out the snack-size bags of nacho cheese Doritos with info about the state's new legal marijuana law attached .

The chip sheet will also have a link to the police departments "Marijwhatnow?" FAQ with helpful answers like no, you can't get back the weed that cops confiscated from you before it was legal.

But the site does confirm that yes, adults in the state are now allowed to possess up to an ounce of marijuana.

“A lot of people still have questions about the nuances of the law and 2013 is a year very much in transition for people who enjoy pot,” Whitcomb said.

The Seattle PD is even having some fun with the hashtag #Marijwhatnow on Twitter and tweeting back and forth with Seattle Hempfest organizers and fans.

"Please ignore maliciously false reports that we’re giving out Bugles at @seattlehempfest. We would never, ever do that," the department tweeted Wednesday. The SPD Twitter operator even made a vegan joke, saying hemp chips would be as disappointing as a carob chip cookie.

While most people on Twitter laughed along and said how much they love their local cops, even the haters got good-natured jokes. One complainer said "Operation Orange Fingers" would be more popular with Cheetos, SPD tweeted back, "We don't think we'll have any problem burning through our cheesy stash.
