Debbie Rowe, who gave birth to two of Michael Jackson's children, took the stand as a witness for concert promoter AEG on Wednesday, telling the courtroom that the late singer's doctors would compete to offer him powerful painkillers.
The Jackson family is suing AEG for hiring Dr. Conrad Murray, the physician sentenced to four years in prison for administering the sedatives that killed Jackson.
"Michael expected doctors to do no harm. Unfortunately, some of the doctors decided when Michael was in pain they would try to help him out and so he listened to the doctors," Rowe said through tears. "His fear of pain was incredible and I think the doctors took advantage in that way."
Rowe, now 54, said she often worried that doctors were prescribing dangerous amounts of pain medication. She even charged her own former employee, dermatologist Arnold Klein, with "not doing what was best for Michael."
“These idiots were going back and forth the whole time not caring about him," she said.
At the time of his death, Jackson was preparing for a series of comeback concerts in London. Rowe said she worried about his ability to perform to such a high standard.
"There is no way he could ever do a concert two nights in a row. His shows are so physical," she testified. "My concern was it was a little drastic to do something like that. We were in another country and I didn't know any of the medications."
