Baby monitor hacked, man yells profanity at Texas toddler

By KATE STANTON, UPI.com

Marc and Lauren Gilbert, of Houston, Texas, used a baby monitor to keep close watch on their two young children in their bedrooms. Unfortunately, the web-based technology allowed someone else to watch them too.

Gilbert said he heard strange voices coming from his daughters room one night -- a man's voice using his 2-year-old daughter's name and saying things like "Wake up you little sl**."

When he went in to check on her, the hacker's voice started shouting at him and his wife.

Gilbert immediately disconnected the router, but wondered if hackers had spoken to his children before.

“It’s quite possible that this had been going on more than one day,” he said. “Security vulnerabilities exist.”

Gilbert's daughter, Allyson, never heard the hackers because she's deaf. "It’s somewhat of a blessing," he said.

But Gilbert will no chances with the technology -- “I think we are going to go without the baby monitor now," he said.

"As a father, I'm supposed to protect her against people like this. So it's a little embarrassing to say the least but it's not going to happen again."
