The "King of Queens" actress, who made headlines after she publicly announced she was leaving the church, has filed a missing persons report on Scientology leader's David Miscavige's wife, Shelly, who hasn't been seen for the past six years.
"We can confirm that the missing person report has been taken and that's all the information we have at this time," an LAPD spokesperson told Us Weekly.
But according to the church, Shelly, who's been living in a compound with no access to the outside world, is not really missing.
"The Los Angeles Police Department has already stated that the case is closed and that the report filed by Leah Remini was unfounded," church officials wrote to Us Weekly in a statement.
"This ill-advised, ludicrous self-promotion and the media inquiries it generated caused an inexcusable distraction for the LAPD in an era when the time and resources of its officers are stretched thin each day. Creating this unnecessary burden for law enforcement was even more irresponsible given the entire episode was nothing more than a publicity stunt for Ms. Remini, cooked up with unemployed, anti-religious zealots who blog on the fringe of the Internet. Sadly, rather than move on with her life and career, Ms. Remini has aligned herself with a handful of untrustworthy, lunatic tabloid sources who obsessively harass the Church to advance their selfish agendas."
In addition, an attorney for Shelly confirmed that she was in fact "not missing."
"Any reports that she is missing are false," the attorney told the magazine "Mrs. Miscavige has been working non-stop in the Church, as she always has."
Remini reportedly questioned Shelly's absence for the first time in the 2006 wedding of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes where she was allegedly reprimanded for asking questions.
"She thought about this over a long time," a source told Us Weekly, adding that this was one of the many reasons that prompted the actress to leave the church.
Remini, who was born and raised in the religion, reportedly plans to write a tell-all memoir about her experience with Scientology.
