Dustin Hoffman, the 75-year-old actor who has spent the last year promoting his directorial debut, "Quartet," has been "surgically cured" of an unspecified cancer.

"It was detected early and he has been surgically cured," his rep told People on Tuesday. "Dustin is feeling great and is in good health."

The Oscar winner will also undergo continued preventative treatments recommended by his doctor.

In 2008, the actor said that the deaths of so many friends had made him look at his own mortality.

"Of course I think about mortality," he told Parade at the time.

So many of my colleagues and friends have died that I’m forced to think about it. What we would all like is to kind of choose when we’re ready to go, and we’d not have any fear. The best part about death is that it’s not selective. It’s comforting to know that everyone dies. Death is the pure democracy.

Hoffman has just wrapped production on the Jon Favreau project, "Chef," co-starring Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and Sofia Vergara.
