July 31 (UPI) -- Fresh off her Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for "The Sessions," Helen Hunt will direct and star in "Ride," a film she pitched to studios two years ago.

"Ride" marks the 50-year-old actress' second time in the director's chair. She previously helmed 2007's "Then She Found Me."

According to Deadline, who first reported the story, Hunt will play a New York City magazine editor who travels to California with her 20-year-old son (Brenton Thwaites). It's there that she meets a surf teacher played by Luke Wilson "who brings her to life in every way."

David Zayas, Mike White, Richard Kind, Leonor Varela and Elizabeth Jayne also star.
