Benghazi rocked by explosions, clashes

Fighting in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, set off by explosions at city buildings, left at least one person dead overnight Sunday.

"Clashes broke out between special forces and an unknown armed group," said Mohammed al-Hijazy, a spokesman for Benghazi security operations. "At least one soldier was killed. The special forces have now retaken control".

A pair of blasts hit city judicial institutions Sunday, leaving 13 people wounded. It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the attacks.

The fighting capped three days of increased violence which included a mass breakout of 1,117 prisoners from Kuafiya prison, orchestrated by a riot inside and an external attack.
