Jason Derulo broke one of his neck vertebrae during tour rehearsal last year, an accident that put him in the hospital and nearly paralyzed him. In a recent interview with Access Hollywood, the 23-year-old "Other Side" singer said the incident really cemented his relationship with "American Idol" star, Jordin Sparks.
“She was awesome," Derulo said of Sparks commitment to his recovery.
That was the time period when we really got close. Beforehand, I wasn’t really looking for a relationship, but she literally stopped everything that she was doing and flew down to Miami and took care of me. It was amazing.
“We were just seeing each other (before) and that was cool," he added, "but I thought that was amazing.”
Derulo was careful to explain that while he and sparks weren't engaged yet, she already has the approval of his grandmother.
“My grandmother is 91 and listen to what she tells me, she says, ‘My only wish before I die is to see you and Jordin get married,’” he said.
Sparks and Derulo aren't walking down the aisle yet, but the couple is working on a musical collaboration. Sparks shared a Vine video promoting her new single with Derulo, "Before It Breaks," this week.
