It's been a long time coming, but "47 Ronin" will finally hit theaters this Christmas.

The first trailer, chock-full of special effects, sword-slinging and heart-pounding score hit the web Thursday, nearly eight months after the movie was supposed to debut, pushed back when the production team needed more time to complete the CGI.

"47 Ronin" is based on the true story of a band of rōnin -- samurai who are without their master -- who enact revenge on the man who killed their leader.

In the movie adaptation, Keanu Reeves leads a cast of Japanese actors as Kai, a half-Japanese, half-British outcast rōnin who joins the vengeful group. Hiroyuki Sanada plays Oishi, the rōnin leader, with Tadanobu Asano as Kira, the target of their revenge and Rinko Kikuchi as Mizuki, a lady who serves Kira and can apparently turn into a dragon.
