Bedbug-covered man causes chaos, evacuation of Manhattan courtroom

Pandemonium struck a Manhattan courtroom when a man arrived covered in bedbugs, leading to an evacuation.

The man had shown up Tuesday for a ticket hearing at Manhattan Criminal Court. Once in the courtroom, a woman noticed blood-suckers crawling on his neck, yelped, and ran out of the proceedings. The man with the bugs on him ran out, too.

"People started bolting," a 49-year-old witness said. "Even the court officers were freaked out. It was disgusting."

Court officers emptied the back three rows and continued court proceedings. An exterminator came 20 minutes later and evacuated the courtroom. The back rows were cordoned off with police tape the rest of the day.

“People were scratching themselves,” the witness said. “Everyone in the courtroom was uncomfortable.

"I'm still scratching myself. Just telling the story I get itchy."
