Nothing draws crowds like a controlled implosion.
The Florida Power and Light company dramatically altered the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., skyline on Tuesday by demolishing one of the city's historic landmarks -- the 1960s-era Port Everglades power plant.
According to the Palm Beach Post, FPL used 450 pounds of dynamite to bring down the plants 350-foot high smoke stacks and 7,500-ton boilers.
The company plans construct a more energy-efficient natural gas plant in its place, which it said would "save FPL customers hundreds of millions of dollars in fuel costs."

National Geographic said Tuesday that FPL's move toward natural gas is part of a growing trend throughout the country. Energy companies are demolishing aging coal-burning plants to make way for more efficient facilities.
