A mountain fire near Idyllwild, Calif., is only 10 percent contained after destroying 15 buildings and nearly doubling in size.

The fire has destroyed six homes and nine other structures and grew from 8,000 acres Tuesday to 14,200 on Wednesday. Up to six vehicles have also been burned.

The fire started Monday in the San Jacinto mountains, burning through dry timber. More than 2,200 firefighters on the scene have struggled to slow it down as temperatures hover in the triple-digit range.

“It’s hot, it’s dry, it’s windy and it's really dry brush,” said Forest Service spokesman Lee Beyer.

The fire is expected to expand until it reaches a lower elevation with less fuel. Firefighters have brought in 25 aircraft and evacuated the surrounding area as they continue trying to extinguish the blaze.
