Rebecca Zahau was murdered at California mansion, family says

The family of a California woman found hanging, naked and bound in a Southern California mansion, in July 2011 say she did not commit suicide and have filed a wrongful death lawsuit.

Rebecca Zahau was found "dead, naked, bound and gagged, with a rope noose around her neck at the Spreckles Mansion in Coronado California, according to the complaint filed in San Diego federal court by her mother, Pari Zahau, and sister, Mary Zahau-Loehner.

They are seeking $10 million in damages and a trial by jury against Adam Shacknai and Dina Shacknai, the brother and ex-wife of Jonah Shacknai, the mansion's owner and Rebecca Zahau's boyfriend when she died. The filing also names Dina Shacknai's twin sister, Nina Romano.

Without providing any specific evidence, the lawsuit accuses Adam and Dina Shacknai and Romano of participating "in some manner in the planning, implementation, execution and subsequent concealment of the scheme to murder" Rebecca Zahau, 32.

Adam Shacknai said he found Zahau's body hanging from a back balcony and that he had cut her down.

Just days before Zahau was found dead, Jonah Shacknai's 6-year-old son Max fell down a flight of stairs at home and died, on July 16, from his injuries.
