Contrary to popular myth, Twinkies don't actually last forever. But according to the representatives from the rehabilitated Hostess brand, "Zombieland's" favorite post-apocalyptic snack will have a longer shelf life when it returns to shelves on July 15.

While previous incarnations of the classic snack cake had a sell by date of 26 days, Hostess said Monday that new Twinkies would have a shelf life of 45 days. The company has also offered to freeze Twinkies before shipping them to customers who want them to last even longer.

“This allows the retailer to date the product for freshness, provides flexibility in filling their shelves and has no impact on the quality or taste of our products,” a spokesperson told FOX Business.

“The new ownership is absolutely committed to baking top quality snack cakes and, in fact, is making major investments to ensure that Hostess products are as good, if not even better than before.”

According to the New York Post, the freezing process could change the Twinkies' classic taste.

"“If they alter the taste, people may not buy it,” a source said.

If you can't wait for Twinkies to return -- the company has a countdown on its website.
