The Prince of Wales paid a visit to the Cardiff set of BBC series "Doctor Who," saying he's been a fan of the long-running sci-fi show since he was 15 years old.

Prince Charles, a former helicopter pilot, took the controls of the time-traveling Tardis, while the Duchess of Cornwall pulled a lever to activate it. The prince then expertly handled the Doctor's trademark tool, the sonic screwdriver.

Matt Smith, who plays the show's eponymous Time Lord, said "He's got the makings of a future Doctor!"

The prince even did his best impression of an evil Dalek, using a voice modulator to say Daleks' famous "exterminate" catchphrase. Based on that performance, the prince may make a better villain than extraterrestrial, time-traveling scientist.

"Doctor Who" showrunner Stephen Moffat loved his Dalek impression, saying "there would be a part in the show for him if he wanted it."

"The prince has got a history of performing and has done stuff with 'The Goon Show' previously, so he really stepped up to the plate," sound technician Nicholas Briggs, who voices the Daleks, said. "Apart from a couple of giggles at the end, he did really good."
