[VIDEO] 1,300-pound shark caught off California coast

A fisherman named Jason Johnston, from Mesquite, Texas, chartered a boat off the coast of Huntington Beach in Southern California on Monday. His group of fisherman managed to catch an 11-foot-long, 1,300-pound mako shark 15 miles away from the shore.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the sizable catch could be a world record.

"It's basically like a gigantic nightmare swimming around," one of the fisherman told KTLA.

Matt Potter, the boat's 34-year-old captain, told the Los Angeles Times that he and his friends go sharking fishing a couple of times a year. It took the men two-and-a-half hours to pull the massive shark into the boat.

Johnston said his arms were still aching from the endeavor.

"I still feel the soreness in every bone," he said. "It's the scariest thing I've ever done in my life."

The Times reported later that videographers from the Outdoor Channel's show, "Jim Shockey's The Professionals," were on hand to film the catch.
