June 2 (UPI) -- Last year, Britons celebrated Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee, which marked their 87-year-old monarch's ascent to the throne. This year marks the 60th anniversary of Elizabeth's coronation, which took place in June, 1953, 16 months after the queen took her father's seat on the throne.

According to Sky News, the queen will spend the day at her favorite estate, Windsor Castle, and attend services at the residence's private chapel.

On Tuesday, the queen will attend another coronation commemoration service presided over by the Archbishop of Canterbury, along with Prince Philip, Prince Charles, the duke and duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.

Buckingham Palace will host a more lavish celebration of Queen Elizabeth's 60th anniversary July 11 to 14, just about the time that Prince William and Kate Middleton's baby is due.
