May 30 (UPI) -- Police officers were called to a Costco in Sterling, Va., after a woman handing out samples began acting strangely and disturbing employees.

According to NBC Washington, Mhai Scott, 38, waved a knife and scissors at sheriff's deputies who arrived at the scene. When a stun gun reportedly "did not work," another officer fired a gun at Scott and killed her.

“It’s a tragic situation,” the sheriff said in a statement. “I feel for everybody involved.”

Store manager Renee Haber told the Washington Post that Scott began behaving oddly making "strange movements" with a knife at the end of her shift.

“She was frightening her supervisor,” Haber said.

Costco shoppers described the scene as scary.

"“Everyone was running out of the building not knowing what was going on,” one said. ”I was a little scared so I got out of there pretty quick.”
