A Georgia man leaving a dealership to test-drive a BMW was pulled over not far from the lot, WSBTV reported.

Jon-Cristopher Sowells had just taken the BMW for a spin when an officer stopped him for not having license plates on the car.

"He said, 'You don't have any tags on the car,'" Sowells said. "I said, 'No problem, I don't have any tags on this car because it's not my car. The dealer is right there, we can get it all clarified."

The officers did not call the dealer, despite Sowells asking them to several times. The officers then asked to see some paperwork in the back seat, which Sowells declined, as he didn't know what they were.

The police officers pulled Sowells out of the car and called for backup. The police report said that Sowells pulled away and they arrested him for obstruction.

"The officer observed a paper... that appeared to be of the type dealers use when placing a vehicle for sale," Snellville police chief Roy Whitehead said. "He asked if he could retrieve it, and Mr. Sowells refused."

Whitehead said the dealership did not answer the phone, and an officer drove there to verify the story. The dealer came to pick up the car, and they took Sowells in for processing.

Sowells has never been arrested and plans to fight the charge. He did end up buying the BMW.
