A a 60-year-old fisherman died in Belarus after a beaver bite sliced an artery causing him to bleed to death.
The Guardian reports this is the latest in a series of beaver attacks on humans that have been taking place in Belarus as the country's beaver population has tripled in the past decade.
The fisherman, whose name has not been released, was reportedly driving with friends toward Shestakovskoye lake when he saw a beaver on the road and decided to stop the car to get a picture with the animal. The man grabbed the beaver, which then attacked, eventually killing him after he bit an artery in the man's leg.
The man's friends reportedly tried to stop the bleeding but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead as soon as he arrived at Sulim's clinic in the village of Ostromechevo.
According to Belarusian Emergency Services, they have attended a string of beaver-related incidents lately. Officials have attempted to drive away the animals by spraying them with water from hoses.
