Four members of the Ochoa family, of Stanwood, Wash., were killed after a collision with another car sent their SUV into a canal, KIRO-TV reported Monday.
The family was headed out of town for the holiday weekend when their SUV hit a car two miles east of Grant, Wash., according to MyNorthwest.com. HeraldNet reported that the SUV struck a guardrail before it sunk into the canal.
Gabriel Ochoa, who worked at a Standwood dairy farm, and his wife, Dioselina Buenrostro, died at the scene. They had two daughters, Sandra, 9, and Yesenia, 4, who were pronounced dead at the hospital.
While the driver of the car was not seriously injured, initial reports indicate that the family died from drowning, rather than the collision.
“They didn't do anything wrong except for trying to spend the holiday weekend with friends and family,” one of Ochoa's coworkers said.
