Czech Republic President Milos Zeman swayed, blinked, and nearly fell drunkenly down some stairs during a televised state ceremony Thursday, and the video quickly went viral. Zeman, who has been in office for two months, later said he was in fact suffering from a virus, and was not actually drunk.
The Prague Daily Monitor reports that Zeman has never made a secret of his "warm relationship with alcohol." The paper writes that Zeman often says, "As I can drink, I have never been drunk in my life-time."
Czech Twitter users began posting photos of themselves drinking at bars and saying they've caught Zeman's "virus." Some English-language tweets from Czech citizens made a clever play on words with "wine flu."
