Larry, 85, and Yolanda, 72, met just a few months ago at a bereavement group and were married in a Las Vegas Chapel. For their honeymoon, they trekked across Texas, including a stop at the April 21 dedication ceremony at the library.
Returning home, they discovered a letter printed with the presidential seal among the stack of mail that accumulated while they'd been a way -- a personal note from the former president.
"I just about fainted," Yolanda Touchon told the Dallas Morning News.
The president congratulated the couple on their wedding and said he and former first lady Laura Bush “hope the joy you shared on April 21 will always be a source of strength and inspiration.”
"Laura and I send our best wishes for a future filled with love and happiness,” Bush wrote.
Something about the newlywed couple and their honeymoon destination has inspired fascination and a flurry of news attention. They spoke with Texas television stations and newspapers, and have received phone calls from all over the country.
Larry Touchon said he cut out the photos and sent laminated copies to friends (A photo of them in the replica Oval Office, with Larry sitting at the Resolute desk and Yolanda at his shoulder, is particularly charming).
“My daughter just had a fit over this,” he said. “She thought this was the funniest thing that’s ever happened to her daddy.”
“I’m in a state of shock with all these emotions. It’s almost too good to be true,” Yolanda Touchon added.
